MANILA, Philippines- – -Veteran actor Mark Gil died 8 a.m. this morning, September 1, due to liver cirrhosis. The news was confirmed by June Rufino, manager of the actor. Mark Gil whose real name is Ralph Eigenmann, belonged to one of the most respected clans in the country who are considered as one of the royalties in Philippine cinema; being the son of Rosemarie Gil and Eddie Mesa. He is the brother of actress Cherie Gil and actor Michael de Mesa.
Gil is the father of ABS-CBN talents Andi Eigenmann, Gabby, Maxene, Ira, and Timothy Mark Eigenmann or better known as Sid Lucero. Mark has been married to Maricar Jacinto of the famous Jacinto clan, for 18 years now. The couple has one daughter, Stephanie Cheri Jacinto. The wedding took place on May 31, 1996. The actor maintained good relationships with the mothers of his children. Likewise, his children has developed a closer relationship as the actor had inculcated in them. A prominent actor in the industry, Mark rose to fame in the movie Batch 81 directed by Mike de Leon, where he played a neophyte initiated in a fraternity. He was recently seen in the ABS-CBN top-rating drama series, ‘The Legal Wife,’ which starred Angel Locsin, Maja Salvador and Jericho Rosales. Among the awards he won in his stint as an actor include Digital Film Festival Award-Best Supporting Actor for the movie Alon in 2008, Gawad Urian Best Actor for Rotonda in 2007, Best Supporting Actor for Magnifico in 2004. Earlier, Gabby Eigenmann and Sid Lucero (two of the actor’s son) denied reports that Mark has cancer, but both said their father is not getting any younger and has to regularly undergo medical check-ups to ensure his health condition.
