Man Jumped off from EDSA Fly-Over Video goes viral
MANILA, Philippines – Warning: this video is not for the faint of heart. Shocking footage of a man jumping off the EDSA-Timog flyover has become a viral hit online after it was posted on Wednesday. The amateur video was taken by Michael Balangatan who was on the 7thfloor of a nearby building when the drama unfolded. The incident, which happened late afternoon on that day, shows a man wearing only a pair of shorts dangling himself on the railings of the flyover. After a while rescuers are seen below the bridge preparing a safety net for him to jump on. The man, however, runs to a nearby section of the bridge with no safety net and intentionally throws himself off there to the shock of the crowd. Some who have seen the video have criticized authorities for failing to act quickly on the rescue. They noted that they were just standing there when the man ran off to the unguarded area of the bridge. According to reports, the man, identified as Ruel Adana, 34, and a resident of Payatas, had been having problems at home with his wife and family, causing him to behave erratically and later attempt suicide. The incident caused a traffic commotion as motorists slowed their vehicles to look at the transpiring event while onlookers crowded the road. According to one of the witnesses to the incident, he saw the man being carried away by authorities in a stretcher to a waiting ambulance afterwards. He initially thought that the man was dead. Miraculously, however, Adana somehow survived the fall and was later taken by his rescuers to the East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City where he is now recuperating.
